Dining in Portsmouth
We are very lucky on Portsea Island to have a wide variety of restaurants and cafes. I’ve visited a lot around here. Here’s a few of my hot picks:
Bistro Montparnasse, 103 Palmerston Road, Southsea – 023 9281 6754
This place does the best cuisine in Hampshire. A delicious selection of beautiful tasting and looking dishes from around the world. Really nice wine selection as well. You can choose between a two or three course set price menu. I fully recommend the 24 hours cooked belly pork when it’s on the menu!

The Tenth Hole Tearooms – Eastern Parade, Southsea
I only just discovered this place, a friend with the same love for tea and cakes as me showed me this little hidden gem. They have the best cake selection I have ever seen and even cater for various food intolerances such as wheat and gluten. It’s also lovely to sit outside beneath their hanging baskets when the Sun is shining. I adore their macaroni cheese which comes with loads of bacon. Their side-salads are also lovely and colourful and come with fruit!

Shorties – 8-9 Bellevue Terrace, Southsea – 023 9283 1941
This place is always busy so make sure you book in advance. This place is a steakhouse which won’t break the bank. They do fantastic cocktails and puddings too.

Istanbul – 40 Osborne Road, Southsea – 023 9275 3490
I had never tried turkish food properly (and no, kebabs don’t count). They do the traditional style kebabs as well as some more unusual spicy clay pot dishes. They also do the most delicious pitta and hummus I have ever tasted. I’d go in there just for that.

Mumm’s Cafe – Festing Buildings, Highland Road, Southsea
The best place for a massive fry-up breakfast after a heavy night out. I very much recommend the egg and bacon rolls. They always have a massive pudding selection on and a roast!
